| SYSTEM TRAY NOTIFICATION ICONS |
CacheSentry Pro by default displays two notification icons in the taskbar system tray area, however you can turn either of these icons off if you do not want to use their features. One icon shows the status of CacheSentry Pro and what (if anything) it is doing at the time. This icon also displays the current size of all the content in the cache as calculated by the program if you hover the mouse over the icon:

The status icons indicate the following modes CacheSentry Pro is in:
| Sleeping | CacheSentry Pro is sleeping and is waiting for something to change in the cache folder. | |
| Waiting | It is awake but is not scanning at the moment. | |
| Working | It is currently scanning the cache and is removing any content from the cache that the managers have been instructed to delete. | |
| Paused | CacheSentry Pro is currently paused. This means it will not automatically scan the cache every few minutes nor when cache activity has taken place. You must manually click the "Execute a cache management cycle" button in the main window for CacheSentry Pro to do anything. You will also see this icon when you have the Cache Size Settings page open in the main window. This keeps you from accidentally deleting content while you are modifying and testing any of the managers. |
The second icon is a global online/offline state indicator and selector. It shows the global online/offline state of Internet Explorer and its related applications. You can select whether you want to be in online or offline mode by clicking once on this icon with the left mouse button and it will toggle between the online and offline state.
| Online | Internet Explorer is working online. | |
| Offline | Internet Explorer is working offline. |

Note that clicking the icon to enable online mode doesn't mean it will connect you to the Internet - you will still need to do something with the browser or other IE-related app, or go online manually if you are using dial-up networking. |
The purpose of having the offline state is so you can browse web pages in the cache without having to be connected to the internet. When you are in the online state, Internet Explorer attempts to connect to the web server of the page you are loading in order to check for the latest content. When you are in the offline state, Internet Explorer always looks in the cache first before attempting to go online to get the content. If the content is not in the cache, IE pops up a window asking whether you want to go online because it needs to do that in order to complete the web page. You may have noticed the "Work Offline" menu item in both IE and Outlook Express. This menu command does the same thing as the CacheSentry Pro online/offline icon - it toggles between the global online/offline state.

The global online/offline state only applies to programs that use the Windows Internet Application Programming Interface. (WININET.DLL) If you use a program that talks directly to the TCP network sockets layer, that program will still attempt to connect you to the internet even when your are in offline mode. |
The tray icons also serve one other purpose: They open the CacheSentry Pro main window. If you right-click either of these icons it will open the main window so you can change the program's settings or stop running CacheSentry Pro.
